South Indian stars come together to celebrate success

The 54th Annual Filmfare Awards (South) was a star-spangled night attended by the biggest and brightest names from Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films. The event, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Center last Saturday, lived up to its reputation. The razzmatazz of the movie industry was evident - an elaborate stage, lights, cameras and loads of glamour. Actors Deepak and Archana were comperes for the evening, which began with actor Vineet’s performance to the classical song, Brahmam Okate. Meenakshi performed next amidst loud cheering. There were also performances by music-director Devi Sri Prasad, and actresses Archana, Kamna and Simran. What was arguably the most scintillating one hour of Filmfare 2006 began when Amitabh Bachchan, dressed in an immaculate black suit, walked in with son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya.

However, the icing on the cake was yet to come. The uncrowned king of Tollywood, Chiranjeevi, was called upon to receive the ‘Legend Award’ along with Mammootty, whose name, Tabu aptly described as “synonymous with Malayalam cinema.” And as Amitabh came on stage to do the honours, the audience was in raptures. Rounding up the glamour quotient on stage were Abhiash, as they presented the best actor award for Malayalam films to Mammootty.
