I’m going bald : Aamir Khan

Aamir KhanAamir Khan is gung ho about the DVD launch of ‘Lagaan’ and the making of the film ‘Chale Chalo’. “You would think it’s so typical of Aamir to wait for six years before launching the DVD of his film. But this time I am not to blame; I was under a contract,” he says in good humour.

Aamir confesses watching ‘Chale Chalo’ left him teary-eyed.

He says, “So many things have changed even personally six years. Junaid (his son) was just a baby during the mak ing of the film and now he’s 5′11′,” he says with a grin.

With Bollywood fever gripping the world, does he think ‘Lagaan’ would have had a better chance of winning the Oscars had it been nominated now? “The time ‘Lagaan’ went for Oscars was very significant for Indian cinema. Perhaps Indian cinema wouldn’t have gotten as much attention from the world if not for ‘Lagaan’ I would say it was a kind of turning point for Indian cinema.”

The perfectionist believes he is too creative a person to be a producer, but “once I was convinced with ‘Lagaan’s’ subject, I was looking for a producer who would share our belief. We could have got any producer since Aamir Khan was starring in it, but who knows if he would share our passion for the subject. That’s why I decided to produce the film myself and that’s the very reason I am producing ‘Tare Zameen Par’ too.

Talking about his current films, is it true that he is going bald for ‘Gajini’? “Yes, I am. One half of the film will see me bald and one half will see me with hair. I act in one film at a time so I have all the time to go through the kind of changes physical required to suit the character,” he says.
