No matter whatever character you play onscreen (vamps or item song dancers) or however bold you may get on music videos, it doesn’t give anyone the license to misbehave with you anywhere, in private or public. The character is an image; it’s not the person.

Sadly, some men who like to use a person’s boldness onscreen as an excuse to indulge their lust, take that image very seriously. However, society, being the way it is, it doubles up the onus on ac tresses like Rakhi Sawant to conduct themselves in an intelligent manner, especially in public places, because you can’t change the fitrat of some men who are inherently slimy.

I think Rakhi should be extra careful when she is in public. She can dress tastefully and look glamorous and even a trifle provocative… however the catch is in an intelligent conduct of oneself and being aware of who you are mixing with and the type of people around you. Yet, irrespective of whatever her perceived reputation maybe, she is a human being and has the right to basic dignity.

Being friendly doesn’t mean it gives a person the leeway to forcibly impose himself on his guest in this manner. More so in this case as the culprit happens to be the host himself. Mika’s act was wrong and Rakhi’s indignation is justified. However, how she conducts herself thereafter or deals with the issue in the media is her personal decision and I wouldn’t like to comment on any insinuation of sensationalism or otherwise.

Pop singer Mika has “gone into hiding” after item girl Rakhi Sawant lodged an FIR with the Oshiwara police alleging that he forcibly kissed her at his birthday party at Andheri on Saturday night. Mika, younger brother of pop singer Daler Mehndi, has been charged with assault and outraging the modesty of a woman under sections 323 and 354 of the IPC.

Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said that Mika had left the city when the police went to his Oshiwara home on Sunday. They, instead, found a young girl, who claimed to be his fan, living there. “In such cases, we take the woman’s statement to be genuine, but an arrest is not necessary. We will initiate appropriate action, but for that Mika should cooperate with us,” Bihari said.

According to the police, Rakhi was invited to Mika’s birthday at the restaurant Someplace Else. At around 2 am, while she was dancing with her friends, the singer allegedly kissed her against her will. “Mika and know each other for the last a few years. Since he had invited me to the party, I dropped by. But, instead of the customary greeting - like a hug or peck on the cheek - Mika kissed me (on the lips) forcibly,” said Sawant. “Mika’s bodyguards also roughed up my foster brother when he demanded an explanation for his misbehaviour,” she added.

Rakhi has demanded an apology from the singer. If he doesn’t, she plans to pursue the complaint till Mika is prosecuted. This is not the first time Rakhi has been subjected to physical assault. In 2005, during a show in Dubai, some people from the audience climbed onto the stage and misbehaved. She was banned from performing there after that.

Yes, she wore a sari, post her controversial dance number in Kolhapure, saying that she’ll stick to the whole nine yards from now on. But it seems that item girl (she likes to be called that) Rakhi Sawant has gone back to her basics, read: revealing outfits to go with those sexy moves!

Razzle, dazzle, pop! That’s exactly what happened in Delhi the other evening when Rakhi Sawant and Daler Mehendi performed together to a packed audience. Daler took to the stage first, and got applause after applause when he belted out his hits Rang de basanti and Sadde naal rahoge toh. Daler then invited the people to the dance floor, not knowing that they’d take him seriously! Things got a tad rowdy when the crowd actually began climbing on to the stage, but things were back in control soon after.

And we don’t need to explain why the security was summoned when Rakhi got onto the stage. Rakhi was in her element as she remarked, “Main koi Mallika Sherawat nahin hoon. I am here so that the audience can enjoy my mirchi bhara dance.” And by the looks of it, they sure did!
