If you find Minissha Lamba sounding like her mouth is full of food, don’t be surprised. Fact is, the actress has just got her wisdom tooth removed and not just one, but two at one go! “There were two of them growing together so I got them removed. I look like a villain now!” she laughs. On the workfront, Minissha’s busy with Anamika, Dus Kahaniyaan, Shourya and Kidnap. “I have been experimenting with all kinds of roles. I’m playing a Punjabi girl in one and an investigative journalist in another. It’s fun doing various kinds of roles so one doesn’t get bored of doing them,” she says. Wise girl Minissha. And we thought all that wisdom would vanish along with your wisdom teeth!
Minissha Lamba, who caught everyone’s eyes with her innocent smile in her debut film Yahaan two years ago, says she is game for an item number, provided the script demands it. The svelte 22-year-old, currently very busy shooting for three films, Anamika, Kidnap and Shourya, told us, “Definitely, I’d love to do an item number for my film if the script demands it. Our industry is song-and-dance-based and these item numbers have purely an entertainment value. I see no wrong if someone chooses to do an item number and I will also do it if required.” That’s Minissha’s take, who has so far acted in roles that have not demanded wearing skimpy clothes. Glimpses of her dancing skills were seen in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, her latest film.
Why is your second film releasing a year after your debut film ‘Yahan’?
After your first film is released, it takes time for people to decide whether they want to cast you in their films. Besides, the release of a film is not in my hands.
‘Anthony Kaun Hai’ (AKH) promises to be an entertainer with a unique story. What is your entertaining quotient in the film?
Finally, I get to do the typical song and dance routine. Being an out and out comedy, I play an adequate foil to Arshad’s character. If he is boisterous, I bring him down. In a way, we are like the perfect yin and yang; I accentuate Arshad’s exaggerations onscreen.
Is it true that you have no other companions in AKH, except a pigeon?
No, it’s not that bad, but the only person who plays my confidant in the film is a pigeon.
After three films, do you have any career strategy planned for yourself?
Yes, plans are there but let’s see what plans God has for me. There are goals that I have set for myself, but my goals have to be in accordance with His plan for me.
How important are PR skills to survive in the industry?
It is important. Sometimes you need to let people know who you are and what you have done.
As a novice, how do you deal with rumours and gossip about yourself?
It’s part and parcel of this profession, so you take it in your stride and move on.
There was a rumour about your engagement and marriage to Ravi Behl, but then you had a change of heart…
Initially, I was completely taken aback and didn’t know where the rumour started. I suffer from commitment phobia and anybody who knows me is aware of this fact. Secondly, I had nothing to do with the man in question and there was no basis for this rumour. When my friends told me about it, I thought they were playing a joke on me.
Actor Minissha Lamba will soon be seen in Anthony Kaun Hai. Besides being a pretty little damsel, we hear that she is one intense actor on the sets. Director Raj Kaushal, who has directed her in his latest flick, says, “Minissha is Hrithik Roshan. I’ve observed that when Hrithik is readying himself for a shot, there are these two nerves on his forehead that are ready to pop. The same thing happens with Minissha before a shot. She concentrates so hard that we think her head’s going to burst anytime.” Now, we know who the ‘thinking’ actors of the industry are. They are at least using their heads Raj!
Minissha Lamba has not had a single release after Yahaan, but the situation is all set to change now. The actress will be seen in three films to be released back-to-back in July. Lamba is looking forward to the release of Corporate, Rocky and Anthony Kaun Hai. She says, “It is actually a coincidence that all the three films are releasing around the same time. I hope they do well.” Lamba is superstitious about the month of July as her debut film also released in the same month last year. She says, “July has been a significant month for me. My debut film hit the screens on July 29 last year.” Despite acting in Corporate, Lamba did not find a place in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic Signal. But she is not feeling too left out. “The film is based on street children and even if Madhur tries his best, he can’t make me look like a street kid. Madhur does his casting based on the script,” she says. Minissha has acquired the reputation of being a prankster on the sets. “Yes, I believe in having fun. Surely, working doesn’t mean being all serious and sober?” she asks.
