Bipasha Basu has had enough of debates on why Water didn’t bring Oscar home. “It’s fantastic that the film has gone to the Oscars after Lagaan and made it to the top five. I don’t know why people are dissecting and analysing everything so much. I am proud of the fact that at such a young age, John attended the Oscar ceremony,” she says.

Brushing aside why she didn’t accompany John to the Oscars, she says, “It’s every actor’s dream to attend the Oscars and I hope to attend it at some point in my career, provided a film of mine gets selected.”

Going by the varied roles this Bong beauty is doing these days, it shouldn’t be all that difficult. “I think it is important for an actor to change his or her image from time to time. Whether it is in Corporate, Omkara or Dhoom 2, each role was diverse and there was no similarity between any of them whatsoever. I put a lot of stress on change,” she says.

How was the experience of being pitted against Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2? “I think Ash is very glamourous. May be, she needed to don more western clothes in the movie. As far as my role is concerned, it was appreciated by both kids and grown-ups.”

And what is Bipasha’s take on John’s statement that he doesn’t plan to get married for a long time? “I am not going to get married at least for the next two years myself. I love my job and my profession. Why quit when the going is so good?”

Here’s one actor who will be proud of himself after he hears this. Apparently, Bipasha Basu, who has been paired opposite Vivek Oberoi in Omkara finds the latter very sweet. “Vivek is very sweet, enthusiastic, and very much into his work,” Bipasha says about the actor. “I have seen Sathiya and I liked him in it. He is very energetic, friendly and co-operative. I didn’t have a difficult time with him,” she adds. Of course, the good vibes are mutual. On his part, Vivek says, “Bipasha is the sexiest and most gorgeous actor. She has a sultry sensuality. She came and dazzled everyone with Bidi jalai le… (her song in the film). She’s a very cool and chilled out person…” Now, is this a mutual admiration society or what?

“NO personal questions please and all John questions are ruled out,” says Bipasha Basu, who was in the city on Wednesday. And marriage, says the sexy actress, can wait. “Right now it’s work that’s important to me and my parents understand that. So it’s going to be a while before marriage happens,” she says.

Awaiting the release of her latest film, Corporate, she says, “I know it sounds cliched, but Corporate is genuinely a different film. First, I play a woman who’s more than my age and has a serious outlook. Moreover it’s made by a man who’s been subtly sensitive while handling such a subject and has ensured that ambitious women are not made to seem like vamps.”

It’s obvious she’s now in the mood to experiment, even chopping off her trademark long hair to sport a Monroelike look. “It’s for my next film with Abbas Mustan. I hate wearing wigs and decided to chop it off before I changed my mind. Like a typical Bengali girl, I’ve had long chotis all this while, so this did take some thinking,” she says.

But there’s no loss of sex appeal, she says. “Besides it’s the audience who’ve tagged me with that. I’ve never made an effort or tried to dress up a certain way thinking now I’m going to ooze sex appeal. At the end of the day, sex appeal lies in your personality,” she says.

Her personality takes on a different shade in her other release, Omkara. And what does she think of Shakespeare being adapted into a Hindi film?

“I think it’s a brilliant idea! Imagine Othello being set against a rustic Indian background! Just goes to show that people are the same everywhere, they have the same insecurities, greed, anger and feelings,” says the actress.

In spite of her hectic schedule in Bangalore she still found some time to spend with sister Bidisha who lives here. “We’re a very close-knit and my family is always around me. I’m very close to my sisters. And I absolutely adore Bidisha’s son Anitej. They recently came down to Mumbai for a month and we had such a blast!”

We have fresh news on this front. Apparently, when Bipasha was shooting with Abhishek Bachchan for Dhoom 2 in Rio, she was very disturbed. Everyone thought that it was because she was worried about John who was shooting in Kabul for Kabir Khan’s Kabul Express. “Of course, Bips was worried about John, she is immensely in love with him. But she was worried about something else too. She could feel John drifting away from the relationship,” says our source.

Incidentally, one day on the sets Bipasha wept on Abhishek’s shoulder. “Bipasha shares a very good relationship with the Bachchans and Abhishek is a very good friend of Bipasha’s. She was weeping profusely just after having a conversation with John over the phone. She probably confided in Abhishek. Apparently, Abhishek promised to talk to John and try to sort out the problem between the two,” says our source.

According to our source, Abhishek did call John and try to sort things out. “In fact, Ash too felt bad for Bipasha,” continues our source. “After Abhishek called John and had a talk with him, there was some improvement in the relationship… However, last month John was not in touch with Bipasha while he was on the world tour with Salman Khan.

Whenever Bipasha questioned him for not calling her, he would give the excuse of not being able to get through. But the fact is that, John bonded with a bombshell during the world tour.”

Both actors are denying the stories of a split. In fact, John made an effort to give a press statement saying that he is still with Bipasha. When asked about a split at a press conference, Bipasha however only said, “I am not the kind to talk about my personal life to get media attention, just before the release of my film. It’s cheap and I don’t subscribe to such publicity.”

A good first impression counts a lot in the corporate world. So ensure that you are extremely ‘clean’. Get yourself a manicure and pedicure regularly.

Hair should preferably be pulled back, either in a tight ponytail or a low bun. Even if you have short hair, you can sweep it back and keep it in place with gel. On certain face structures, pulled-back hair might make one look severe. In such cases, maintain longer, poker- straight hair. The idea is to have no-fuss look; you can’t be messy.

Your personality should be more dominant than what you are wearing. Go in for subtle colours. You could wear skirts and suits or formal shirts and trousers or knee-length skirts and full-sleeved shirts. In summer, you could opt for lighter shades like peach, light blue and light pink. Black should be kept only for the evenings, when you’re attending a corporate dinner or some other event.

Jewellery should be kept to the minimum. Funky pieces are a no-no. A sleek watch and simple earrings like studs or balis are just right. It has to be basic. You should make sure that you mean business and you are not here to simply look pretty.

If you are a very attractive woman, you have to underplay your looks if you want to be taken seriously. You cannot afford to get ‘dolled-up’.

The Bollywood folk are back in the city, and they’re leaving no leaf unturned in painting the town red. Spotted lounging on a Sunday evening was Bipasha Basu, who was seen enjoying the company of Rocky S at a south Mumbai karaoke bar. In this case however, Bips was not letting her hair down… quite literally! She tied her new hairdo up in a bun, much to the dismay of revellers who wanted a dekko at her much talked about new hair style.

Dressed down in a flowing dress and flat chappals, she was hardly a show stealer…that’s ’cause the live football match was getting all the boys’ attention and surprisingly Bipasha was rooting the most! Quite a ‘cheer’leader, this gal!

Actor Bipasha Basu is a style icon for many. On one occasion, the already tall lass had donned high heels on her feet, and many were literally looking up to her. When quizzed about how she managed the pencil heels, Bipasha replied, “Heels are not for me. I wear them extremely rarely. They can be really uncomfortable. At the same time, if I know that there isn’t going to be much standing and walking to do, I slip them on. I am comfortable in flats.” Now, gals, you have one more reason to not wear heels - not only are they bad for the knees, but Bipasha thinks they are not great either.

Ask any actor and they’ll tell you how difficult it is to make the audience laugh. But the sexy Bipasha Basu is finally getting the hang of it. When we asked her if she was getting into the groove after working in a few comedies, she replied, “I think I have a very good sense of humour, which is very important for an actor if he wants to understand the genre. Now that I have worked in one, and even a comedy, I was watching the actors around me, their timing and their dialogue delivery. You have to get rid of your inhibitions, and I am still learning. Three more films and I think I will get the hang of it.” Then if she is as funny as Paresh Rawal… You’ll know how she learnt the tricks of the trade!

These days actors are increasingly becoming particular about the characters they portray on screen and Bipasha Basu is no exception to this rule. The Bong Bombshell is currently in London, shooting for Abbas-Mustan’s next, a situational comedy where she plays a double role. A first in her career, Bipasha is sparing no efforts in playing her parts to perfection. So for one of the two roles, she got her hair cut short just before flying off to London. And if you’re wondering what her long-haired beau John Abraham has to say about it, he hasn’t seen it yet. It seems he can’t wait to see his short-haired Bips.
